Leavitt Peak

    After hiking Sonora Peak the week before and seeing the winding trail up Leavitt, I knew I had to walk it.
The Marines were out training so I had a fighter escort circling Leavitt while I made my ascent.

Alpine County highpoint from St Marys Pass.

 

    There is a section of the Sierra that seems overlooked between Northern Yosemite and Lake Tahoe by some.  I've ignored it, I'm sorry to say, always speeding to scramble those sexy alpine routes in the High Sierra between Bridgeport and Lone Pine.  Finally now that I'm -slowly- knocking off Ca County highpoints, I had a chance to see it's beauty and regret my procrastination over visiting this area.  I can't believe I've never been over Highway 108 before and I'm doubly glad I did it in the Fall with the Aspen colors at their height.
