Joshua Tree / Death Valley

Made a quick tour through Joshua Tree NP and Death Valley NP last weekend. Yeah that's right, the above field of cattails is right in the center of Death Valley. This next picture was taken only a few miles away.

Devils and Castle Peak

Made it up a couple of class 3 peaks in the Tahoe area I've been meaning to do for awhile. Devils peak was a particularly enjoyable peak that until a few years ago I never knew existed. This is the peak that towers over the Lake that the Hiroshimas like to go to when they're at their cabin at Donner.

Another Ultra

Well, I'm going to enter my 2nd Ultra, another 50k down in the desert. The Calico Trail Run to be exact. I apparently need the motivation of an upcoming event to keep running.

Saline Valley

Today I was reminded of a solo trip I took to Saline Valley to do a little peak bagging last November '05. This little corner of Death Valley National Park is really awesome and very secluded. Just to get here you have to travel over 50 miles of mountain hugging deserted dirt roads. The rewards are great though and include hot springs, desert peaks, and...well paradise.

Here are the Upper Springs where I soaked after my climb. There's nothing like watching the sun set and the moon rise from these primitive hot springs.

Oh, click on the top right small picture and you'll get a view of the top of the Sierra poking above the Inyo range.

Tahoe Rim Trail

Knocked off another section of the Tahoe Rim Trail last weekend with Ray. Did the Big Meadows to Echo Summit section. Just about halfway through with the trail now.

Quebec, Here We Come

I have a couple of vouchers for round trip tickets on Southwest Airlines so the fetching Mrs Daggett, I mean Madame Daggett, and I are off to Quebec and Maine for a week. We plan on staying in Quebec city for the weekend doing...whatever ( like they say; what goes on in Quebec stays in Quebec), then heading down to Maine to visit my brother and his family.

I really have no idea what we are going to do in Quebec, we just thought it would be cool to go somewhere a little different, somewhere a different language other than English or Spanish is spoken. I've been practicing my French: Je vu mange. See Voila, simple.

When in Maine I am going to try to make it up Mt Katahdin via the Knife Edge traverse. I hope the weather cooperates.

Wyoming trip

Spent a fantastic week on the Green river just below Fonntenelle Resevoir in Southwest Wyoming. First, a big thank you to Bill for letting us stay at your ranch. What a great treat.

We explored quite a bit of the old Oregon trail on ATV's and saw many interesting bits of history. Many pioneers had inscribed in the rock their names and date of their historic passing, such as at places named Johnston's Scout Rocks or Emmigrant Springs.
